It is a great relief for youth from the coastal region and Kenya at large following the launch of the Westerwelle Innovation Project, which aims to create employment opportunities for young people and support various entrepreneurs across the country.
The non-governmental organization, headquartered in Germany, plans to provide training for entrepreneurs in groups to help them advance their activities locally.
Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday ahead of the launch, Westerwelle Foundation Chairman Michael Mronz said the initiative aims to unlock local talent potential, empower entrepreneurs, and ensure sustainable business growth in the coastal region while creating digital-based job opportunities.
Michael added that the project will not only benefit the youth of Mombasa but also young people from other regions across the country.
“The growing pool of talent in Mombasa and the vibrant small business community here have immense economic growth potential. Historically, resources and support organizations have been concentrated in Nairobi, leaving Mombasa underserved,” Mronz said.
Meanwhile, the Country Director of Westerwelle Kenya, Joshua Murima, urged young people to embrace the initiative, saying it offers numerous opportunities for economic and business development.
“This program is more than just supporting startups; it’s about working with local entrepreneurs and stakeholders to strengthen the entire community and create a hub of innovation that drives lasting change,” said Murima.
Their remarks come as the national government continues its efforts to create digital jobs for young people as one way to reduce unemployment in the country.
