A recent project by Kenya Ports Authority presided by Capt. William Ruto in Rift Valley has received a negative and harsh backlash from netizens who have termed the project as tribal.
Over the past twenty years, Kenya Ports Authority under different leadership have partnered with the community in a bid to reflect the Authority’s dedication to uplifting local communities through, education, health, sports and environment sectors through sponsorships, donations and project development throughout the Coast region and beyond.
However, a recent hand over project of KPA Last week on 11th January 2025, by Capt. Ruto who commissioned three new classrooms at Kongoi Kaptich Secondary school in Kiptororo ward, Kuresoi North, Nakuru County in Rift Valley region has raised questions of their corporate social responsibility in the Coast region.

Kenya Ports Authority has claimed to implement various projects within the coastal region that contribute to the community. According to a report in their CSR booklet edition – 2(Tunahusika), the are various school constructions and clinics. These include Shimo La Tewa Boys High School dorm construction, construction of 5 classrooms for Kadzandani Primary School, construction of 2 dorms for Mikahaki Sec. School in Kilifi and others in Kwale, Lamu and Tana River Counties. Some recent community building programs and projects have been with other countries.
In a Tweet on X on January 13th 2025, KPA stated, “KPA officially handed over three classrooms to Kaptich Kongoi Primary School, constructed through the Authority’s corporate Social Investment Initiative #tunahusika…” Questions have been raised whether it was a primary school or a secondary school.
KPA also insisted its CSI policy focus but netizens insisted them to share photos and initiatives in the Coast Counties. Netizens have criticized the project saying that charity begins at home but it is that charity begins at the home of the one in charge. “There are so many schools at the Coast that have no classrooms, Starting with Kilifi and Lamu… But no, Kaptich Kongoi Primary School had to get it first…” one stated.
