DCI officers from Likoni Sub-County, Mombasa county, on the spot for allegedly collecting Kshs 150,000 to allow chang’aa den operations.
An illegal chang’aa manufacturing plant in Likoni Mombasa county has raised concerns over increased extrortion from the Directorate of criminal investigations officers (DCI) to allow its operations.
According to the owner of the brewing plant, Dafina Raison DCI officers drawn from the Likoni police station under the command of deputy DCIO, Hezekiah Mshillah recently staged an operation in her premise situated within pungu villa in Timbwani ward and threatened to arrest her.
She alleged that this raid came barely a week after another batch of officers visited the den and were offered a similar amount to allow her to operate the changaa den.
Raison also alleged the officers demanded kshs.150,000 failure,to which she would be arrested and arraigned in court .
“I was forced to part with Kshs 150,000 in exchange for my freedom, each time they raided my premises, they demanded for money,”She lamented.
“Even though the officers did not carry my apparatus, the amount I gave left me with no coin. I feel I should close the business. I’m worried about where I’ll get money to take care of my children as this has been the only source of income for five years, ” Raison said.
Likoni Sub-County police commander Geoffrey Ruheni said he was not aware of such an operation and that investigations into the matter will be launched.
