Police in Mombasa have arrested a 23-year-old woman from Likoni in connection with the murder of his boyfriend, 50-year-old Abdallah Rashid.
Purity Mukami Kalunge was apprehended after preliminary investigations suggested that she killed Abdallah by stabbing him over an undisclosed domestic dispute.
The suspect hail from Meru while the victim hail from Likoni sub-county. The slain Abdallah was a businessman who owned a fish stall at Likoni Ferry at the time of his death and his lifeless body was on Saturday 12 this month discovered lying in their rented room in Mtaa wa Maka area, Likoni with several stabs in the stomach.
He was rushed to the Coast General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. A team of detectives led by Likoni deputy DCIO, Hezekiah Mwasaru Mshilah had on Wednesday 22, been dispatched to Meru following intelligence reports, upon arrival the suspect sneaked to Embu.
She later fled to Ruiru where she was yesterday arrested following a hot pursuit. She has since been ferried back to Likoni police station to be charged for murder. Likoni DCI boss Issah Watshifa confirmed the arrest, stating that the suspect is currently being held for interrogation.
“We have the main suspect in custody and are conducting thorough investigations. Our officers are on that matter and the suspect will be produced in court on Monday 27,” Washifa said.
The gruesome murder had left the victim’s family in shock, with distress calls for swift justice. Abdallah’s Elder brother, devastated by the loss of their brother is calling for justice. “We want the authorities to ensure that the person responsible for this heinous act is punished to the fullest extent of the law,” said Abdallah’s elder brother, Rashid Abdallah.
