A Mombasa Businessman who was recently charged for falsely obtaining millions of Shillings from women across the country has yet again been slapped with a fresh similar charge.

Simon Ekai Ewoi appeared before Mombasa Senior Resident Magistrate Hon. David Odhiambo to face the fifth count of obtaining Ksh 8,049,000 from Lydiah Mary Munyoki by false pretense.

The particulars of the case being that Simon Ekai Ewoi on diverse dates between 11th January 2022 and 18th July 2022 in Mombasa county, with intent to defraud , obtained from Lydiah Mary Munyoki through M-pesa Ksh.936,000 ( nine hundred and thirty six thousands) and cash Kshs.7,113,000 (seven million, one hundred and thirteen thousands) all totalling to Kshs.8,049,000 (eight million and forty nine thousands) by falsely pretending that his assets had been frozen by central bank of Kenya and need facilitation to unfreeze them and in return buy her a parcel of land, a fact he knew to be false or untrue.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on a Ksh. 4 million bond, with one surety of similar amount.

Earlier, Ewoi had been charged with four other counts of obtaining money, where he was accused of defrauding over 25M from four women.

The suspect is accused of posing as a wealthy businessman who preys on his victims at posh restaurants, airports and along the beaches.

In most of the cases, the court heard that Ewoi introduced himself as a businessman dealing in the exportation of gold and would request his victims for loans to be repaid within one or two days, claiming that his accounts had been frozen by the Central Bank of Kenya.

In one such incident, Ewoi had defrauded Ksh.21,735,350 from a woman by falsely pretending that he was in position to partner with her in a gold and Mercury trade, a fact he knew to be false.

He however denied all the charges and was released on a 7M bond.

He is set to appear before court on 23/04/2024 and 24/04/2024 respectively for pre-trial and further directions of the two matters.
