Police are investigating an incident where a 27-Year-Old boda boda rider was found critically injured after he had been robbed of his motorcycle at Shelly Beach, Likoni.

Mwero Swaleh is said to have been hired by unknown people who wanted to be dropped at Pungu villa when he was attacked and his motorcycle registration number KMGD752Z taken away at Karisa area near Shariff Hardware on Thursday 1, February 2024 night.

According to the area village elder, Japan Ali, who visited the scene, Mwera Swaleh was found lying in a pool of blood with deep cuts on the head and was bleeding.

Japan later reported the matter to Shelly Beach police station under OB number 14/1/2/2024. He with the help of other Bodaboda riders rescued Swaleh and took him to Likoni District Hospital where he was referred to the Coast General and Referral Hospital in critical condition and put in the Intensive Care Unit.

A police report seen by the writer of this article revealed the motorcycle has not been recovered and no arrests have been made.

“Refer My OB17/3/2/2024 at 1100hrs, It was reported by one Zahara Rashid Kale, a resident of Jamvi La Wageni area that on January 31, 2024 her bodaboda rider one Mwero Swaleh 27-years failed to show up at home as usual. She reports that today at around 900hrs she received information from a village elder of Pungu villa at Karisa area one Japan Ali that the said bodaboda rider was found lying in a pool of blood at Karisa area near Shariff Hardware at Pungu villa area in the morning of February 1, 2024, He had been attacked by unknown assailants who beat and cut him with a sharp object on the head leaving him unconscious on the ground after robbing him a motorcycle of registration KMGD 752Z (Boxer Bw 125) the property of Zahara Kale. The village elder with help of other bodaboda riders rescued him to police (this command) and made a report of assault vide OB.14/1/2/2024 and were referred to Likoni District hospital. The victim was later transfered to coast general provincial hospital where he was put in the intensive care unit. He has since been visited by scene of crime aid officers from this command and it was established that he’s out of danger CMM his condition has been stabilized and put in the wards though he has not gained speech. Pursuit to arrest the assailants is underway CMM all police commands keep on the lookout and any trace of the stolen motorcycle please apprehend/detain the handlers and inform this command” the report read in part.

This follows a new trend in the area that has left more than five riders attacked and robbed of their motorcycles and others killed by thugs posing as pillions.
