A needy bright student from Likoni constituency in Mombasa county is appealing to well-wishers to help her after she failed to join University on September 4, 2023 for lack of fees.
Sichei Brenda Chepkemei a product of Njonjo Girls High School in Laikipia scored a mean grade of B-. She was among the top students at the school.
She was selected to join Tom Mboya University to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree (Mathematical sciences, with I.T).
When Chepkemei scored a B- of 53 points in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams last year, she was optimistic that he would pursue her dream course in mathematics, actuarial science and computing.
Chepkemei had defied all odds and had worked hard four years ago when she excelled in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) from Kenya Navy Primary in Mtongwe Mombasa.
And now, battered and broken but still hopeful, her fate now hangs in a balance as the hurdle of school fees denies her the chance to join Tom Mboya University which has since added her more days until Thursday 15 of this month.
Chepkemei has promised to work hard if given a chance.
Her mother Dorice Mengwa told journalists that she had done everything she could including selling what she owned to pay for the girl’s secondary education and had now run bankrupt. And that on this, she has visited several government offices for help in vain.
” I’m a bit confused. Have been given till Wednesday 15, this month to defend the chance of which she’s likely going to loose if I will not get there” the single mother added.
She’s now appealing to the area member of Parliament, Hon. Mishi Juma Mboko to come to her rescue.
