Residents of Nyali around the busy Nyali Center Mall in the county of Mombasa were yesterday thrown into panic after a suspected device was discovered on a tree.

The suspicious device which sparked a security scare to both locals and visitors was later removed by Bomb experts.

The tension ended at around 7PM when Bomb experts drawn from coast regional police headquarters safety removed it.

According to a police report, the object was discovered by a police officer who had been deployed to provide security at Nyali Center.

“He reported that there was a suspicious object size of a medium size dry cell battery hanging on a tree at the height of a 10ft and there was a wire connected to both the negative and positive sides. The wire from both sides was connected to a roundish white plastic object size of a coin and was emitting blue light at the center when the tree is swayed by the wind”. The report read in part.

The street along Links road was cordoned off while the bomb disposal experts attended the scene.

The suspected object was taken for further examination by police and the area declared safe.
