A pharmacist in Mombasa has been charged for conducting an induced abortion on a defiled and impregnated 15-year-old girl.
Mombasa Chief magistrate, Hon.Martha Mutuku, heard that, Amos Nzioka Mutinda allegedly supplied an assortment of drug to the minor with an intent to procure an abortion.
The prosecution told the court that Nzioka committed the offence on June 3, 2023 at his private chemist located within Tudor areas in Mvita sub county, Mombasa county.
That the accused allegedly induced the minor with assorted drugs leading to the abortion.
That it’s after this that the guardian reported the incident to police who took the minor to Coast general and referral hospital where the abortion was confirmed on examination by the doctors.
Nzioka pleaded not guilty to the charges and released on kshs.300,000 bond with one surety of similar amount and an alternative cash bail of Kshs.200,000.
Police are still looking for the man accused of defiling and impregnating the minor.
The case prosecuted by PPC Alex Gituma was mentioned on June 12, 2023 for pre-trial purposes.
