A 16-Year-Old criminal suspect has bee n charged with the offence of robbery with violence contrary to section 295 as read with section 296[2] of the penal code.
Athman Mohamed who was released early this year from prison after serving six years over similar offences appeared before Mombasa principal magistrate,Vincent Adet, where he was charged for attacking and robbing a standard eight pupil in Likoni .
The particulars being that on March 10, 2023, at Kona ya Zamani in Likoni sub-county, Mombasa county,Athman Mohamed together with others who werenot before court while armed with knifes robbed, Mangale Mwero, of his kshs.500.
The suspect pleaded not guilty to the charges where the court heard how, on Friday 10 March this year, a Mtongwe primary class eight pupil while on his way back to school from home where he had gone to collect registration fee by means of bicycle, Upon reaching Brothers area, Kona ya zamani along Likoni-Mtongwe polytechnic road, he was stopped by three men who immediately started robbing and assaulting him while armed with a kitchen knife.
In the process police officers who were on patrol appeared and spotted the suspects pulling off the bicycle from the victim and rushed to the scene to rescue the boy.
The suspects then started escaping to different directions, but one of them, Athman Mohamed was arrested by members of the public who later handed him over to police.
The court further heard that during his arrest he was in possession with a bag and that after police conducted a quick search he was found with five big rolls of bhang .
The minor together with the suspect were escorted to Likoni police station where he recorded a statement, and the suspect placed in custody.
The minor was later taken to Likoni district hospital where he was treated and discharged.

Kingi Mwinyi Sahera who is still nursing serious injuries was on his way to school, when he met a group of armed criminals at Mwananzia area in Likoni who took off with his school bag and Kshs.50 meant for lunch.
