A top student in the 2022 KCPE from a poor family in Kwale who had hopes of getting her secondary education is now facing challenges of joining the school of her dream due to lack of resources.

Agnes Mwikali Mwongela scored 321 marks at Chigombero primary school, a government institution,in Lunga Lunga, Kwale County.

She has been called to join Waa Girls high school by February 6,this year but her family has failed to raise the Kshs.62,779 fee required for a whole year by the institution due to poverty.

According to the Waa Girls’ fee structure, Agnes received,the total fee required for the first term is Kshs.42,512 while fee for the second and third terms are Kshs,12,160 and Kshs.8,107 respectively.

There is also at least kshs.28,000 needed for school uniforms and other admission requirements.

Agnes’s mother, Christine Magusu,is a single mother who does casual laundry works. She has other four children in primary Schools.

The family generally lives in hand-to-mouth.

Ms Magusu said her efforts to look for sponsorship have not been successful.

Agnes dreams of becoming a doctor in future.
