A police officer, based in Bamburi police station, was today Wednesday 27 December arraigned in Mombasa law Court after he allegedly shot and killed his 30-year-old wife.

Police Constable Meshack Kosgei who appeared before Mombasa Senior resident magistrate Rita Orora, did not plead to the murder charges for he had not undergone mental assessments and test.

Orara however ordered the state to avail the accused to the Coast general referral hospital for mental assessment and test.

The magistrate further issued orders to have the suspect detained at the Shimo La Tewa GK prison awaiting to be arraigned in court for plea taking.

This came after the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), through staste counsel , Yusuf Mohammed, had applied to have the accused detained at the facility, an application which had been opposed by Kosgei’s Lawyer,Titus Kirui who in his application had sought for the accused to be detained at Nyali police station where he was being held since his arrest.

Kosgei who had worked for three years in Mombasa is alleged to have shot his girlfriend Emmeily Musiza, and a mother of two three times after he suspected her of having an affair with another man.

The deceased succumbed to the gunshot wounds while receiving treatment at the Coast general in intensive care unit two weeks ago.

At the time of her death one bullet was still lodged in her stomach.

The matter will be mentioned on January 16 2023.
