A woman in Likoni Mombasa who poured hot water on another woman over a debt of Kshs200 owed by her husband was on Thursday 22, December charged with causing grievous bodily harm. While appearing before Mombasa Principal Magistrate Vincent Adet, the accused, Cecilia Kingi Muuo pleaded not guilty to the charges. The court heard that on the 19th day if December this year at Jamvi la Wageni area in Likoni the complainant, Faith Chelangat, had gone to the house of the accused, to enquire on her husband’s whereabouts since he owed her kshs200 which she had planned to use to buy supper.
Muuo is alleged to have informed Chelengat who is currently nursing 60% burns at the Coast general hospital , that her husband was not present at the time but she however welcomed and told her to wait for the husband. The suspect then went on to prepare supper and began boiling water meant to cook for ugali, moments later she turned violent and confronted the victim before pouring the hot water on her and warned her to stay away from her husband. The victim was rescued by neighbours who responded to her distress cry and rushed her to Coast general hospital. The accused was released on a Ksh50,000 bond with one similar surety . The matter will be mentioned on January 11, 2023 for pretrial.
